The 31st APEC Automotive Dialogue is going to be held from December 4 to 5, 2019 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1 (TaiNEX 1). More than one hundred policy officials and industrial representatives from the automotive industry of APEC economies including the United States, Japan, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Russia, Canada, Mexico, Peru will participate in this meeting.

The APEC Automotive Dialogue has been held twice a year since 1999 and this is the first time the meeting is held in Taipei. Unlike most APEC meetings, the Automotive Dialogue is a regular dialogue mechanism between the public and private sectors. The public-private communication aims to help plan the development of the automotive industry, so as to promote trade liberalization and facilitation in the region.

During the meeting, economies will share the current market situation, update on vehicle regulations and standards, and on the trends of autonomous vehicles and electric vehicles. It is also expected that the APEC Autonomous Vehicle Principles and Guidelines, which promotes the development of a safe, technological and economical autonomous vehicle industry in the region will be completed at the meeting. In addition, participants will go on a technical tour at CAR Lab, a comprehensive autonomous vehicle test laboratory and test ride locally-manufactured autonomous vehicles, which will demonstrate our innovative model of autonomous driving technology, services and operations.

Our team consists of representatives from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, including the Bureau of Foreign Trade, the Industrial Development Bureau, and the Department of Industrial Technology, as well as the Department of Railways and Highways of the Ministry of Transportation and Communication along with members of the private sector. The meeting will help strengthen our exchanges of experience from promoting automotive policies, and present our progress in promoting autonomous vehicles and electric vehicles to other APEC economies. Overall, the meeting aims to facilitate cooperation between APEC economies, boost regional economic performance, and ensure the welfare of consumers and the sustainable development of the industry.
